Country Craft Taster Weekend

includes materials, home cooked lunch, coffee/cake breaks

Ensuite accommodation is available on site. Please enquire about separate prices for breakfasts and evening meals

You will try your hand at four traditional country crafts.

Willow Platters

You will gather your own willow and dogwood on site. Learn how to make a willow ring and, with brightly coloured winter stems, weave a simple but beautiful and useful platter. Hedgerow decorations such as berries, larch or alder cones can be added if wished.

Pottery – Pinch pots

Learn the importance of preparing clay expelling air bubbles through wedging. Have a go at spiral or shell wedging.

You will be taught how to make an even pinch pot using simple decoration ideas and finishing techniques.

There will be an interesting informal talk on sawdust firing and how this can be achieved at home.

Handle wool in its raw state and sample the ancient craft of spinning to create a useable yarn. Learn about the processes that turn a handful of fleece into beautiful soft knitting wool.

Green Wood - Hanging rails

For coats, hats, tools or keys depending on size.

Choose a size and shape for the back of your hanging rail and make your choice from green wood sourced on site – birch, beech and alder are all available.

Prepare your wood and choose a peg design. Learn how to strip the bark using a traditional shave horse and drawknife. Use a brace and bit and understand how wedges hold large pegs in place.

Proudly take home your own individual, intrinsically beautiful, hanging rail.

Workshop hours are 10.00am – 12.30pm and 2.00– 4.30pm
